When Variegation Goes All the Way: A “Full Moon” Vanilla
An unexpected surprise during watering: one of my Vanilla planifolia ‘Albo-Variegata’ vines has apparently decided that green is optional.
The vine gradually lost almost all green pigmentation in its newest growth. The latest seven leaves are completely white — what variegated-plant collectors often call “Full Moon” growth.
Beautiful, but biologically rather impractical: without chlorophyll, the white section depends on the greener parts of the plant for energy.
For now, I’m leaving it completely untouched and watching what the next nodes will do.
Chlorophyll? In this economy? 🙂
